Christchurch is a delightful town situated at the meeting of the Rivers Avon and Stour, which give superb harbour views, walks and opportunities to observe the local wildlife. The town dates from Saxon times and is dominated by the 11th Century Priory Church.  In addition, there are many interesting shops, excellent places to have a meal and a number of traditional English pubs.

How to get there

Bournemouth station is 10 to 15 minutes walk away from Bournemouth One to One English Language School.  Alternatively, a taxi can be ordered which will cost approximately £4.

From Bournemouth to Christchurch it is about an 8 minute journey by train.  There are trains at approximately every 30 minutes.  The cost is £2.50 return.

On arrival at Christchurch station it is a 10 minute walk to the town centre.  Just follow the signs, which will direct you there.  Guided tours of the town take place every Monday morning at 10.30 hrs from May to September.  The tour, which lasts for one hour, departs from the Tourist Information Centre where you can buy your ticket.  The cost is £3 per person.  Alternatively, with help and a leaflet from the Tourist Information Centre, you can conduct your own independent tour of the town.

For your return journey the train leaves at 16.47 hrs arriving in Bournemouth at 16.55 hrs.  A taxi can be arranged to take you to your host family, to your hotel or back to the school.

It is also possible to travel to Christchurch by bus.  Buses leave from Bournemouth town centre and from Charminster where Bournemouth One to One English Language School is located daily and the cost is about £3.50 return.

A member of staff who knows Christchurch well and in fact lives there is available to give you a completely personalized tour of the town.

Brockenhurst and the New Forest

Brockenhurst is one of the largest villages in the middle of the New Forest, where wild ponies and donkeys can be found wandering the village.  The New Forest is one of the largest and oldest forests in England.  It was used by William the Conqueror as a hunting forest and it is still rich in wildlife today.  The New Forest is perfect for walking, horse-riding, cycling and has many traditional English pubs and picturesque villages.

How to get there

Bournemouth station is 10 to 15 minutes walk away from Bournemouth One to One English Language School.  Alternatively, a taxi can be ordered which will cost approximately £4.

From Bournemouth to Brockenhurst it is about a 25 minute journey by train.  There are trains approximately every 30 minutes.  The cost is £4.70 return.

On arrival at Brockenhurst station it is a 5 minute walk to the town centre.  Just follow the signs, which will direct you there.  

For your return journey the train leaves at 17.21 hrs arriving in Bournemouth at 17.37 hrs.  A taxi can be arranged to take you to your host family, to your hotel or back to the school.

It is also possible to travel to Brockenhurst and the New Forest by bus.  Buses leave from Bournemouth town centre daily and the cost is £5.25 return.

Portsmouth

If you are interested in boats and the sea then Portsmouth is the ideal place for you to visit.  This maritime city has been the home of the Royal Navy for over 500 years and has many ships to see, both old, such as the Mary Rose and HMS Victory together with the Navy ships still in active service.  Portsmouth also has a large range of shopping facilities with excellent restaurants and pubs.

How to get there

Bournemouth station is 10 to 15 minutes walk away from Bournemouth One to One English Language School.  Alternatively, a taxi can be ordered which will cost approximately £4.00.

From Bournemouth to Portsmouth it is about an hours journey by train (changing trains at Southampton or Fareham).  There are trains approximately every 30 minutes.  The cost is £14.10 return.

On arrival at Portsmouth Harbour station it is a 5 minute walk to the historic dockyard, shopping facilities and restaurants.  Just follow the signs, which will direct you there.  With help and a leaflet from the Tourist Information Centre, you can conduct your own independent tour of the town.

For your return journey the train leaves at 16.58 hrs arriving in Bournemouth at 18.31 hrs.  A taxi can be arranged to take you to your host family, to your hotel or back to the school.

Salisbury and Stonehenge

Salisbury is a beautiful, historic market town located in the Wiltshire downs.  There are many museums to visit together with a variety of shopping facilities, both modern and traditional.  Salisbury Cathedral has the tallest spire in England and holds the Magna Carta and Europe’s oldest working clock.  The world famous Stonehenge is located near Salisbury.

How to get there

There are regular buses to Salisbury from Bournemouth.  The bus stop is in the town centre.  

From Bournemouth to Salisbury it is an hour and 15 minutes journey by bus.  There are buses approximately every hour Mondays to Saturdays.  The cost is £6.00 return.

On arrival at Salisbury station it is a 10 minute walk to the town centre.  Just follow the signs, which will direct you there.  Guided tours of the town take place every morning at 11.00 hrs from March to November.  The tour, which lasts for one and a half hours, departs from the Tourist Information Centre where you can buy your ticket.  The cost is £2.50 per person.  From May to September, themed walks take place every Saturday at 2.30pm.  Alternatively, with help and a leaflet from the Tourist Information Centre, you can conduct your own independent tour of the town.  It is possible to take a bus from Salisbury direct to Stonehenge.

For your return journey the bus leaves at 18.45 hrs arriving in Bournemouth at 19.55 hrs.  A taxi can be arranged to take you to your host family, to your hotel or back to the school.

Winchester

Winchester has a great deal to offer to all its visitors.  You are surrounded by history, the magnificent cathedral, the Westgate, Winchester College, museums and galleries, medieval buildings and quiet green gardens.  The city is also a shopper’s delight with its many well-known High Street stores and its smaller speciality shops and boutiques.

How to get there

Bournemouth station is 10 to 15 minutes walk away from Bournemouth One to One English Language School.  Alternatively, a taxi can be ordered which will cost approximately £4.

From Bournemouth to Winchester it is about an hour’s journey by train through the attractive New Forest.  The train leaves Bournemouth at 13.04 hrs and the cost is £11.50 return.

On arrival at Winchester station it is a 10 minute walk to the town centre.  Just follow the signs, which will direct you there.  Guided tours of the city take place every afternoon (Monday to Saturday) at 14.30 hrs from May to September.  The tour, which lasts for one and a half hours, departs from the Tourist Information Centre where you can buy your ticket.  The cost is £3 per person.

For your return journey the train leaves at 16.57 hrs arriving at Bournemouth at 17.59 hrs.  Alternatively, if you wish to stay later, there is another train at 17.22, which arrives at Bournemouth station at 18.12 hrs.  A taxi can be arranged to take you to your host family, to your hotel or back to the school.
